The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) is a vibrant community of retirees who are engaged in life-long learning through a variety of courses and activities. The Institute operates in partnership with Oak Hammock and the University of Florida and is affiliated with the Roadscholar Institute Network.

ILR offers many courses that include art, science, literature, music, history, technology, and social sciences. They offer three terms starting in January, March, and October and a light summer schedule. Courses are offered five days a week, morning and afternoon. Each course, usually of six one-and-a-half to two-hour classes, is held the same day and time of each week.

Registration is required together with a fee of $10.00 for each course of six classes. All summer sessions are free of charge, as are individual “Cutting Edge” classes.

The Institute organizes socials featuring guest speakers and special events. All ILR programs are dedicated to the growth and fulfillment of participants. These programs are directed by members who include members of Oak Hammock as well as residents of the greater Gainesville area.
