For 9 years beginning in 2009, The Film Club met the third Tuesday of each month in the Oak Room at 6:30 p.m. to view a movie and discuss it. Every three months members chose a director and three of his or her films. The Club watched a series of three films by a given director in order to get a sense of that director’s style. Some of the directors recently discussed were Sir Carol Reed, Pedro Almodóvar, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Elia Kazan, Sarah Polley, and Hayao Miyazaki. The idea was to think of films not just as entertainments, but as works of art. Members exchanged thoughts before and after the movies.

The Film Club is currently inactive, waiting for new leadership.

Annual Club dues were $10 for an individual and $15 for a couple.

Norm Holland, an internationally recognized film essayist, directed the activities of The Club and led its discussions until his death in September, 2017. The films that were exhibited to members of The Club are available for borrowing by any resident via the Oak Hammock libraries.
